Spotlight Illustrator: Patrick Scullin

Patrick Scullin is an award winning illustrator, designer and cartoonist.  Patrick’s illustration style is a blend of traditional drawing, inking, painting and digital coloring effects.  His work is inspired by a diverse set of artists that include John Singer Sargent, Alphons Mucha, Drew Struzan and Adam Hughes to name a few.  Patrick’s combination of traditional and digital effects, with a focus on the human figure and portrait, is well suited for publishing, comic book, gaming, and entertainment clients who need to promote character and story.  Comic books played a large part in Patrick’s development as an artist and illustrator.  From an early age he was inspired by their beautiful stylistic art and bold storytelling. Patrick continues his interest in comics as the writer and artist for his creator-owned series Super Siblings.  Super Siblings is an all-ages comic series for geeks and their kids that follows the adventures of a brother and sister with super powers.  Conrad, a.k.a. Scout uses his for good, while his younger sister Courtney, a.k.a. Banshee uses hers for bad.  What’s more–neither knows the other’s secret identity.  Super Siblings was a weekly web comic for eight years and can be found at SuperSiblingsComics.com, which has also spawned a half dozen printed editions. Patrick holds an M.F.A. in illustration from Cal State Fullerton and a Bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. As a professional artist, Patrick has worked as a business owner, freelance artist and staff designer for advertising and creative agencies.  He currently teaches design and illustration at Riverside City College.  Patrick grew up drawing comics in the San Bernardino Mountains.  He is married to Kandra Scullin, who is a fine artist and together they have two adult sons who also grew up in the mountains drawing comics.
